I was so excited during the first few minutes of e01: they perfectly hit the tone and look of the original film, even the crew of the Maginot look like they're from the 70s.. but very quickly we literally fall to earth and that's where both the space vessel and the plot crashes for me. For some reason the writers have decided to combine the gore and body horror of the original movie(s) with this weird Peter Pan inspired plot of a stupidly evil genius who constantly runs around in pyjamas (or suits inspired by pj's) , who has created a team of children in synthetic bodies (which are btw said to be indestructible right until they aren't) who are named after the Lost Boys (again from Peter Pan). This team of grown-up-bodied children (which is acted with very varying success) just constantly break the tension of the supposedly horror-themed series, with their stupid decisions and childish idiosyncrasies. I haven't seen the yet to be released final episode but it appears that the Wendy character (again because: we want more Peter Pan in our Alien horror show) can talk to the Xenomorphs, which basically seems to turn them in to trained doggies in the penultimate episode.. just UGH. If the Xenomorph bites off someone's hand with a ticking clock on it and then starts ticking to reveal its presence, I'm going to scream - even if no one can hear it in space.
