The Death of Louis XIV

In the opulent courts of Versailles,surrounded by his loyal subjects and doctors,the greatest king of France, Louis XIV, Endures a slow and agonizing death. After a hunting trip,he feels a sharp pain in his leg,and his health rapidly declines. Despite temporary rallies, he becomes increasingly frail ,unable to perform his duties. Word of his condition spreads, and four doctors are summoned to provide care. They diagnose gangrene, but the king refuses amputation and prepares for his imminent death. He receives the sacraments, organizes a regency for his young grandson Louis XV,and provides advice on wise ruling. Quacks attempt to heal him, but he succumbs to worsening gangrene . He lapses into a coma and dies on September 1,1715 . After a post-mortem examination , his heart and intestines are separated from his body as per his wishes, and he is interred in the Basilica of Saint-Denis
