the main character is ahead of his time with his way of thinking and that he is aware of it makes the movie something more than just a good movie.

Frequently asked questions

What is Dead Poets Society about? Toggle content

In the conservative setting of Welton Academy in 1959, a group of young boys finds their lives transformed by an unconventional new English teacher, John Keating. By teaching them to embrace poetry and "carpe diem," or "seize the day," he inspires his students to question the status quo and pursue their passions. The bond among these boys strengthens as they explore themes of individuality, creativity, and the struggle against societal expectations. However, as they begin to live life on their own terms, they must also confront the harsh realities of adult responsibilities and family pressures. This poignant drama celebrates self-discovery while poignantly highlighting the consequences that can arise when dreams clash with tradition.
