In the rugged Yorkshire Dales of the 1870s, a widow named Annie Quaintain and her two teenage children embark on a perilous journey to find a new home in the lawless shantytown of Jericho. This ramshackle community of outcasts and misfits has sprung up in the shadow of a massive viaduct, which they've been brought together to build. As Annie and her family struggle to survive in this harsh new world, they must navigate the dangerous tensions between the rival gangs of navvies, the corrupt railway agents, and the desperate prostitutes who call Jericho home. Despite the odds against them, they find love, friendship, and a fierce determination to thrive in this unforgiving landscape.
