During the Spanish Civil War, celebrated author Miguel de Unamuno finds himself questioning his initial support for the Nationalist uprising as the conflict becomes increasingly brutal. While Unamuno struggles with his own beliefs and loyalties, he becomes embroiled in a series of tense confrontations with those around him, including his colleagues, the authorities, and even General Francisco Franco himself. As the war rages on and the fate of his friends and colleagues hangs in the balance, Unamuno must confront the harsh realities of the conflict and re-examine his own role in it.
