What is True Crime about? Toggle content

True Crime is a gripping thriller that follows the story of Steve Everett (played by Clint Eastwood), a hard-boiled journalist with a troubled past, who is assigned to cover the execution of a death row inmate, Frank Beechum (played by Isaiah Washington). As Everett delves deeper into Beechum's case, he begins to suspect that Beechum is innocent of the crime for which he has been convicted – the murder of Amy Wilson – and that there is another killer at large. With just 12 hours left before Beechum's execution, Everett must race against time to gather evidence that will prove Beechum's innocence or forever hold his peace. In his quest for the truth, Everett encounters a cast of characters who each have their own secrets: the prosecution witness, Dale Porterhouse (played by Jeff Daniels), who may not be telling the whole truth; the district attorney Cecelia Nussbaum (played by Christine LaPado-Breglia) , who seems more interested in protecting her reputation than seeking justice; and Warren (played by John Lithgow), a young man who may hold the key to unlocking the mystery. As Everett investigates further, he faces resistance from all sides: his bosses at the Oakland Tribune are more interested in selling newspapers than exposing corruption ,and Beechum's warden Luther Plunkett(played by Bob Gunton) seems more concerned with carrying out his duties than ensuring justice is done. Despite the obstacles in his way, Everett persists in his pursuit of truth, driven by both his journalistic instincts and a desire to redeem himself for his past failings. With time running out, Everett must use all his wits and resources to uncover evidence that will prove Beechum's innocence and bring the real killer to justice before it's too late... This movie is about an investigative journalist who must uncover evidence that can prove a death row inmate's innocence just hours before their execution. It's a thrilling drama that explores themes of justice, power, and redemption.
