The Majestic

The Majestic is a movie set in 1951 that tells the story of Jim Carrey's character, Peter Appleton, a Hollywood screenwriter who is forced to flee the city after being accused of having communist sympathies. After a car accident, Peter loses his memory and ends up in a small town where he is mistaken for Luke Trimble, a soldier who is believed to have gone missing in action during WWII. The townspeople, including Luke's girlfriend Adele, welcome him with open arms as their long-lost hero. As Peter tries to rebuild the town's decaying movie theater, he begins to embrace his new identity and falls in love with Adele. However, when a movie that he wrote plays at the theater, Peter regains his memory, forcing him to choose between his old life in Hollywood and his new life in the small town. The movie features an all-star cast, including Bob Balaban, Brent Briscoe, Jeffrey DeMunn, Amanda Detmer, Allen Garfield, Hal Holbrook , Laurie Holden , Martin Landau , Ron Rifkin , David Ogden Stiers , James Whitmore , and Gerry Black.
