The Four Musketeers (1974) In 17th-century France, during the Anglo-French War, Cardinal Richelieu plots to take control of the French throne. He recruits Milady de Winter, a beautiful and deadly spy, to kidnap Constance Bonacieux, the dressmaker to Queen Anne of France. The musketeers, D'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, must defend the queen and her dressmaker from Richelieu's machinations. They also have to deal with the vengeful Milady, who wants to take revenge on D'Artagnan for foiling her previous plans. The musketeers rescue Constance from imprisonment and take her to safety in a convent. Richelieu orders Milady to threaten the Duke of Buckingham with exposure of his affair with the Queen if he doesn't comply with his demands. Milady seduces d'Artagnan and sends him poisoned wine, but he discovers her true nature and escapes. The musketeers then proceed to expose Richelieu's plans and sentence Milady to death by beheading. In the end, d'Artagnan is promoted to Lieutenant of the Musketeers after defeating Rochefort in a duel.
