The Beautiful Country

The Beautiful Country tells the story of Binh, a young Vietnamese-American boy who embarks on a transformative journey to find his father in the United States. After a life of prejudice and hardship in Vietnam Vietnam, Binh sets out to find his mother in Saigon, only to discover a family tragedy that sends him fleeing to America. He and his friend Tam make their way to Malaysia, where they face new challenges and meet Ling, a Chinese prostitute who becomes Binh's confidant. The trio eventually reaches New York City, where Binh works as a delivery boy and Ling performs in a cabaret. As Binh struggles to come to terms with his past and find his place in the world, he learns that he is eligible for free airplane passage to the United States and granted citizenship. He sets out on a road trip across America, meeting a cast of colorful characters along the way, until he finally finds his blind father who is a handyman at a ranch in Texas. Through their interactions, Binh comes to understand the complexities of family, identity, and the power of human connection.
