In ancient China, a powerful fox demon named Xiaowei is imprisoned in ice for violating the demon code. She is rescued by a quirky bird demon named Que'er, who helps her search for a man willing to give his heart to Xiaowei so that she may become human. They encounter a general named Huo Xin, who is revealed to be a woman with half of her face disfigured. Xiaowei uses her magical powers to manipulate Huo and make her fall in love with her, but things get complicated when Huo's loyalty is tested and the two women's identities are revealed. Meanwhile, an evil witch doctor from a neighboring kingdom seeks to capture Princess Jing, who is betrothed to the Tianlang prince, and use her heart to revitalize him. Xiaowei and Jing switch bodies and destinies, but ultimately, Huo's commitment to Jing breaks the enchantment and the four of them defeat the Tianlang forces. In the end, Xiaowei decides to return Jing's heart unconditionally, and under the bewitching moment of a parting eclipse, Xiaowei's soul merges with Jing's body, healing her face in the process.
