Frequently asked questions

What is Michael Collins about? Toggle content

Michael Collins, a controversial Irish patriot, leads his countrymen in their fight for independence from Britain in the early 20th century. After the failed Easter Rising, Collins is arrested and later becomes the Director of Intelligence for the emerging IRA. He begins a counter-intelligence campaign against the British, orchestrating numerous assassinations of agents and collaborators. The violence escalates, with the British deploying the Black and Tans to suppress the independence movement, resulting in a massacre at Croke Park. De Valera, the President of the Irish Republic, returns from the USA unable to secure support for the cause. The Irish Republican Army is forced to fight conventionally, leading to heavy casualties and a failed siege on The Custom House. The British unexpectedly call for a ceasefire and Collins is sent to London to negotiate the Anglo-Irish Treaty, which allows for eventual Irish independence but also splits Ulster between Britain and Ireland.
