Elina's mother, sister, and a liberal young male teacher all try to mediate the ensuing battle of wills between Elina and Miss Holm. Härö strør ikke om sig med unødig tidskolorit eller påtaget 50'er-stemning. Han holder sig til historien om pigen, der siger fra, selvom hun kan undgå en masse ballade ved at indordne sig.
