Desperate Measures

Desperate Measures is a 1998 crime thriller film directed by Barbet Schroeder. The movie follows Frank Connor (Andy Garcia), a San Francisco police officer, who is in a frantic search for a compatible bone marrow donor for his leukemia-stricken son, Matt. The only match is Peter McCabe (Michael Keaton), a sociopath who is serving life in prison for multiple murders. Despite McCabe's initial reluctance, he agrees to donate his bone marrow in exchange for a chance to escape from prison. However, things take a turn when McCabe escapes from the hospital and takes Dr. Samantha Hawkins (Marcia Gay Harden) hostage. Frank Connor must now pursue and protect the deadly fugitive, who is also his son's only hope for survival. The movie explores the themes of desperation, survival, and the lengths to which a parent will go to save their child.
