8The Descendants is fresh and very funny, thanks largely to Payne and co-writer Jim Taylor’s zippy adaptation of Kaui Hart Hemmings’ source novel, and Clooney’s flummoxed clownery.

In a contemporary kingdom, the benevolent teenage son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney's Beauty and the Beast) is set to take the throne. His first proclamation: offer a chance at redemption to the troubled offspring of Cruella, Maleficent, the Evil Queen, and Jafar, who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with all other villains, sidekicks, evil stepmothers, and stepsisters.
