The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is a classic Western film that tells the story of Ransom Stoddard, a young lawyer who arrives in the small town of Shinbone with his wife Hallie. Stoddard is determined to rid the town of which is terrorized by the notorious outlaw Liberty Valance. Stoddard, a man of peace, tries to use the law to bring Valance to justice but soon realizes that force is needed. Tom Doniphon, a rugged rancher, teaches Ranse how to use a gun. Hallie falls for Ranse, while Tom realizes he's falling for Hallie too. As tensions rise, Valance bullies Ranse at the restaurant, tricks him during a shooting lesson at Tom's ranch house, and ultimately challenges Ranse to a gunfight. The night before the statehood convention, Valance vandalizes the newspaper office and severely injures the editor. Ranse goes after Valance and shoots him. Ranse returns to Ericson's where Hallie treats him, Tom gets drunk, forces the Marshal to run Valance's men out of town then attempts suicide by setting fire to Hallie tells Ranse that Tom is in love with her. Ranse withdraws his nomination for delegate to Congress after being accused of building a career from murdering a man until Tom explains that it was he who killed Valance. This movie stars Jimmy Stewart as Ransom Stoddard and John Wayne as Tom Doniphon in a classic good versus evil tale.
