Grant was never as fully Grant as in this picture, his dented swagger, his pursed look of wounded pride, his teasing sense of being able to get exactly what he wants if he could just spare the effort.

Charade is a 1963 American comedy-mystery film directed by Stanley Donen, written by Peter Stone and starring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. The film follows Regina "Reggie" Lampert, an expatriate American working as a simultaneous interpreter in Paris, who becomes embroiled in a mystery involving her recently murdered husband and a group of criminals seeking a quarter of a million dollars in gold that her husband had stolen during World War II. Reggie is pursued by three men who believe she knows where the money is, and she eventually seeks the help of Peter Joshua, a charming American who she met on holiday in the French Alps. As the hunt for the money continues, Reggie and Peter become romantically involved, but Reggie soon discovers that Peter is not who he claims to be. The film features a cast of memorable characters, including Walter Matthau as Carson Dyle (alias Hamilton Bartholomew), James Coburn as Tex Panthollow, George Kennedy as Herman Scobie, Dominique Minot as Sylvie Gaudel, Ned Glass as Leopold W. Gideon, Jacques Marin as Inspector Edouard Grandpierre, Paul Bonifas as Mr. Felix, the stamp dealer, and Thomas Chelimsky as Jean-Louis Gaudel. Charade is known for its witty dialogue, engaging plot twists, and stylish direction by Stanley Donen. The film was released to critical acclaim and commercial success in 1963 and has since become a classic of its genre.
