In a distant future, humanity has fled Earth after a devastating war over a technology that allows interplanetary travel. The new society, led by a totalitarian government, has outlawed all forms of entertainment, including music and art. A group of young girls, led by the determined Takamina, defy this oppressive regime by resurrecting the legendary idol group AKB48, now known as AKB0048. Armed with their courage and passion for music, they fight to bring their performances to their fans, wherever they are. But the government sees them as terrorists and will stop at nothing to silence them. Will AKB0048's message of love and hope prevail in a galaxy ruled by fear and oppression?
