Michele Mainaghi, a wealthy pharmaceutical entrepreneur, becomes entangled in the investigation when his company's tainted blood infects a young police officer with HIV. As the scandal unfolds, Mainaghi's mistress, Veronica Castello, pursues a career in television and becomes entangled with Notte. Meanwhile, upstanding Gulf War veteran Pietro Bosco finds himself propelled into a political career with the Lega Nord party, but at a steep personal cost. As the lives of these six individuals intertwine, they must confront the harsh realities of power, corruption, and betrayal in 1990s Italy.
