Robin Williams is the star, demonstrating once again that he's sometimes better in drama than comedy. He has that manic side he indulges, and he works better (for me, anyway) when he's grounded.

What is World's Greatest Dad about? Toggle content

Lance Clayton (Robin Williams), a high school English teacher and aspiring writer, faces the worst tragedy and the greatest opportunity of his life when his son Kyle dies in an accident. Lance stages Kyle's death as a suicide to salvage his son's dignity but finds himself living a lie as he becomes the subject of adoration from the school community. He writes and publishes a phony journal that was supposedly written by his son, which attracts the attention of book publishers and lands him a television appearance on a nationally broadcast talk show. However, Lance ultimately confesses that Kyle's death was accidental and that he wrote the suicide note and journal leading to him being ostracized by the school community. Despite this, Lance begins to find solace in his writing and the company of his neighbor Bonnie (Jennifer Hudson). A story about the complexities of human relationships, the pursuit of fame, fortune, popularity but ultimately the importance of authenticity.
