In this uproarious comedy-drama, a down-on-his-luck New Yorker named Mathias Gold inherits an elegant Parisian apartment from his estranged father, only to discover that it's already inhabited by a lively 90-year-old woman named Mathilde Girard. With her daughter Chloe, they share a deep connection that spans generations. Mathias learns about a viager system, an ancient French real estate concept with complex rules, that makes it difficult for him to sell the property. He decides to stay and learns more about his father's hidden past, confronting Mathilde about her long-lasting affair with his father that started before he was born. They both share how their parents' adultery affected them, leading Chloe to end her affair, and Mathias and Chloe develop feelings for each other. However, when Mathias discovers they are not related by blood, he sacrifices a multi-million Euro offer for the apartment, choosing to live with Mathilde and Chloe while earning a modest income.
