A United Kingdom is a movie based on a true story that took place in the 1940s when Seretse Khama fell in love with Ruth Williams in London. Seretse was a prince from Bechuanaland (now known as Botswana), while Ruth was a young Englishwoman. This love story was not acceptable to their families or the British and South African governments, which were against their relationship due to apartheid laws and segregation. Despite many obstacles thrown in their path, Seretse and Ruth were determined to be together and fought against all odds to make their love triumphant.heid term of five years but was instead made permanent by Winston Churchill.
