The Woman King

The Woman King is a historical epic inspired by true events that took place in the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries. The movie follows the story of General Nanisca, a strong-willed woman who leads the Agojie, an all-female group of warriors, in their struggle to protect their kingdom from slavers and colonizers. Nawi, a young girl who refused to marry a man who would beat her, joins the Agojie and becomes one of Nanisca's most trusted soldiers. Together with Izogie, a veteran Agojie fighter, Nawi learns the skills and strength to face the enemy head-on and protect her people. As the threat of an all-out war looms, Nanisca and her team must fight to defend their kingdom against the Oyo Empire and Portuguese slave traders who seek to destroy their way of life.
