In the tumultuous years leading up to World War II, a young man named Franz Huchel finds himself working at a small tobacco shop in Vienna, where he encounters the famous psychiatrist Sigmund Freud. As Franz navigates his complicated love life, he turns to Freud for guidance, leading to a unique and unexpected friendship between the two. Meanwhile, the political and social climate in Austria becomes increasingly tense, and the trio must confront the difficult decision of whether to stay or flee the city as the Nazi regime closes in.
