The Physician

The Physician is a historical drama film set in the 11th century, following the journey of a young man named Rob Cole who discovers he has an extraordinary gift - the ability to sense when someone is dying. Orphaned and alone, Rob joins a traveling barber-surgeon and learns the basics of medieval medicine. However, he soon becomes disillusioned with the limitations of these practices and decides to seek out the famous physician Ibn Sina in distant Kakuyid Persia, who teaches medicine in a school that does not admit Christians. Determined to become a physician and defeat death itself, Rob circumcises himself and assumes the identity of a Jew, Jesse ben Benjamin, in order to study at the school. Along the way, he meets Rebecca and experiences a sandstorm that changes his life forever.
