The Foster Boy

The Foster Boy is a movie that tells the story of Max, an orphan who dreams of being part of a real family. He is sent to live with a farmer's family, the Bosigers, where he is treated like a workhorse and humiliated by their son, Jakob. Max finds solace in playing the accordion, which he is passionate about, and forms a friendship with Berteli, another foster child at the farm. They both suffer abuse and mistreatment at the hands of their foster family, leading them to dream of running away to Argentina, where they can start a new life. Tragedy strikes when Berteli becomes pregnant and dies after being forced to drink a bottle of castor oil to induce an abortion. Max runs away to Argentina, where he becomes a successful musician and continues to communicate with Berteli through his music. The movie sheds light on the dark history of foster care in Switzerland and highlights the struggles faced by children who were mistreated and ignored by their caregivers.
