The Dancer

In a small Indonesian village, Srintil, an orphaned young woman, is destined to become a sacred dancer to save her starving community. She must undergo a ritual where her virginity is sold to the highest bidder, which devastates her childhood sweetheart Rasus. He joins the military, and she becomes a famous ronggeng dancer involved in communist rallies. During a failed coup, Rasus returns to his village, but Srintil disappears, and he spends years searching for her. Ten years later, he finds a street dancer who resembles Srintil and gives her the ronggeng amulet, signaling his enduring love.
