In the final days of the Spanish War, a fearless fascist soldier, Rogelio, has a change of heart after meeting the son of one of his victims. Believing the boy will kill him when he grows up, Rogelio becomes a hermit and dedicates his life to protecting the fig tree the boy has planted at his father's gravesite. As the years pass, Rogelio's vigil becomes a source of fascination for tourists, much to the dismay of his former comrades. A unique tale of redemption, friendship, and the power of nature.
