Ännu en Hulot-film som denna gång är mer sammanhängande än föregångaren. Mer balanserad humor och bra regi av Tati. Väldigt fina miljöer, och jag uppskattar alltid färg på 50-talsfilmer.

What is Mon Oncle about? Toggle content

Mon Oncle is a classic French comedy film directed by Jacques Tati, released in 1958. The movie follows the story of Monsieur Hulot, a lovable but scatterbrained uncle who lives in a crumbling old neighborhood in Paris. Hulot's nephew, Gérard, lives with his materialistic parents in a modern, high-tech house in the suburbs. The film contrasts the old-fashioned, atmospheric neighborhood where Hulot lives with the sterile, machine-like existence of the Arpel family's ultra-modern home. The movie explores themes of individuality versus conformity, practicality versus superficiality, and the importance of human connection in a society increasingly dominated by technology. Hulot, who is unemployed and struggles to adapt to modern society, is portrayed as a symbol of creativity and spontaneity against the backdrop of a society that values efficiency and uniformity. Tati's signature visual humor and satire are on full display in Mon Oncle, with its colorful characters, playful gags, and clever use of sound and image. The film was a critical and commercial success, winning several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the Cannes Film Festival's Special Jury Prize. It continues to be a beloved classic of French cinema and remains relevant today, offering a poignant commentary on the effects of technological advancement and societal change on human relationships.
