Har man tålmodigheden, evnen til at glemme logik og sund fornuft, kan man nyde filmens stillestående melodramatiske religiøst parfumerede handling – og ikke mindst Juliette Binoches inderlige nuancerde og smukke spil.

...hver gang den spillefilmdebuterende sicilianer Pietro Messina er ved at løbe tør for brændstof, foregår der en transformation så subtil og inspirerende i ansigtet hos Juliette Binoche, at energien bliver kickstartet på ny.

Francesco Di Giacomos lyxiga foto förvandlar Sicilien till ett omväxlande ödeland där Anna och Jeanne utelämnas åt sina respektive osäkerheter, samtidigt som Binoches och de Laâges kapabla spel förser filmen med tät stämning.
