The One

In the midst of World War II, a Soviet artillery unit is tasked with holding a strategic bridge against the Nazi forces. However, upon arriving at their position, they discover a group of deaf-mute orphans and their teacher, Eve, who have taken refuge in a nearby monastery. Eve has lost her faith, but finds purpose in protecting the children. The soldiers are faced with a difficult decision: execute their orders and risk the lives of the innocent children, or disobey and risk their own lives to save them. As the battle rages on, the artillerymen must find a way to prevent the children's deaths, and ultimately, find their own sense of humanity in the midst of war.
