What is Babette's Feast about? 
Babette's Feast is a movie that tells the story of two elderly sisters, Martine and Filippa, who live in a small village on the western coast of Jutland in 19th-century Denmark. They are members of a dwindling congregation founded by their late father, a pastor who was known for his strict and unyielding beliefs. The sisters' lives are turned upside down when Babette, a mysterious French woman, arrives at their door seeking refuge. Babette offers to work as their housekeeper and cook, and over the next 14 years, she wins their respect and that of the other villagers with her improved versions of bland meals. When Babette wins the lottery and receives 10,000 francs, she decides to prepare a delicious dinner for the sisters and their small congregation on the occasion of the founding pastor's hundredth birthday. However, the sisters worry that the meal will become a sin of sensual luxury and agree to eat it without speaking of any pleasure in it or mentioning the food during dinner. The movie explores themes such as religion versus sensuality using sumptuous ingredients it also shows how these characters find joy together despite contrasting personalities alleviating loneliness amongst each other’s company which they all share even being alone but not really alone because they have each other through thick & thin!!
