High concept, high fun.

Fun performances from Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, and Snoop Dogg buoy this hangout-movie buddy comedy.

...a successful directorial debut for long-time stunt coordinator J.J. Perry. It isn’t a revelation, but it’s mirthful and violent and feels like everyone involved had fun making it while taking their jobs seriously.

This is a movie that you talk back to, in excitement, fright, or amusement, or because it did something corny or dumb and you can feel that everyone around you recognizes it, too.

Shift looks and feels low-budget, from its slapdash effects to its sketched-in script, though that also feels like kind of the point: It might be bright daylight, but it's always midnight-movie time somewhere.

This action-comedy romp is exactly as formulaic as that plot summary makes it sound, but it also has a decent stab at building its own mythology.

This ultra-violent, LA-cool vampire comedy is the perfect vehicle for Foxx, who knows how to infuse his macho killers with a heart of gold and a tinge of aw-shucks charm.
