What is Wag the Dog about? Toggle content

Wag the Dog is a political comedy-drama film that follows the story of a presidential advisor, Conrad Brean, who creates a fake war to distract the public from a presidential scandal. The film takes place during the final weeks of a presidential race, where the President is accused of sexual misconduct. To shift the public's attention away from the scandal, Brean hires Hollywood producer Stanley Motss to create a fictional war in Albania. The hoax is successful at first, with the media and public focusing on the war instead of the scandal. However, things take a turn when Motss invents a hero who was left behind enemy lines in Albania and claims he died during his rescue. The team then discovers that Schumann is actually alive but dies after attempting to rape someone's daughter. Motss stages an elaborate funeral for Schumann and claims he died from wounds sustained during his rescue, but chaos ensues when it gets out of hand and people start questioning what really happened with Schumann; Ultimately resulting in Brean having him killed due to him wanting credit for all this on live television instead offering an ambassadorship as payment along side dire warnings about playing with his life which would lead up towards revealing how truly corrupt our whole system can be if we let these kinds practices continue unchecked by those involved at every level!
