The subsequent supernatural happenings—slammed doors, rearranged belongings, yanked limbs—are nothing audiences haven’t seen before, but Wan stages them for maximum heart-in-throat suspense.

This movie cemented James Wan as the director of "horror" movies for non-horror fans. Cheap attempts to make this into anything more than an amusing thriller ultimately fall flat.
