The Chess Player

In 1934, a Spanish chess champion, Diego Padilla, falls in love with a French journalist, Marianne Latour, and wins the Spanish Championship of Chess. After the Civil War, they move to France with their daughter, but Diego is soon accused of spying by the Nazis and imprisoned in an SS prison. There, he must rely on his passion for chess to survive in a hostile environment, under the watchful eye of Colonel Maier, a chess enthusiast himself. As Diego struggles to stay alive, he must confront the loss of everything he holds dear and the moral decay that has consumed the world around him. Will his love for chess be enough to keep him going, or will he succumb to the darkness that threatens to engulf him?
