A young girl named Vesna is diagnosed with leukemia and her estranged grandfather takes her to live with him in the mountains, where she learns to appreciate the simple things in life. As she spends more time with her grandfather and the animals on his farm, Vesna begins to heal and find happiness. But when her grandfather gets caught in a bear trap and Vesna has to take care of him, she learns the true meaning of love and sacrifice. As Vesna's health improves, she must confront the harsh realities of life and death, and ultimately learns that not all birds can fly.
