In this whimsical comedy, a struggling filmmaker turned canine recounts his journey from failed communist revolutionary to four-legged philosopher. Julian, fresh out of film school, finds himself struggling to finance his latest project and is forced to take a job on an apple plantation to make ends meet. There, he meets a cast of eccentric characters, including Sancho and Hong, who have been fired from their museum jobs for stealing a Dürer painting and a fire extinguisher. As they toil away in the orchard, they commiserate about the struggles of capitalism and find solace in the wisdom of a wise fool in monk's robes, who speaks of a "communism without communists" in Italy. Will Julian find the funds to finish his film, or will he remain stuck in this idyllic yet exhausting existence?
