As welcomed original takes on danish filmmaking is, this moody historically inspired story comes off somewhat forced in its wanting to lift more than it can handle. From the sought stylistic black and white and scope to the amounting of beats  subordinated to style over story. But, it’s beautifully shot and staged with an openhearted love for early German cinema.
