In a world where a mysterious fog has granted a young boy named Yoshio Kobayashi immortality, he longs for death and shuns human contact. Enter Kensuke Hanasaki, a member of a boys' detective club, who takes an interest in Yoshio and invites him to join the club. As they solve cases together, their bond grows, and they uncover a hidden connection between their club's leader, Kogorou Akechi, and the century's greatest villain, the Fiend With Twenty Faces. Will Yoshio find solace in his newfound friendships, or will his unidentifiable mist continue to haunt him?
