57min - In front of the surprised and angry producers of “The Gipsy Show,” Arantxa dances to a classic piece by Debussy instead of merengue, in a tribute to the “Butterflies.” The memorial service in Salcedo convenes an outraged crowd; the United States suggests democratic changes. Trujillo, cornered and infuriated, swiftly appoints a puppet vice president. Amado Guerrero reveals his infiltration, and calls for revenge against Trujillo. Arantxa convinces Asier to let her join the commando for the assassination of Trujillo. Jimmy Alves connects the dots about the ties between Arantxa and Minerva, and while surveilling Arantxa, he captures Asier and tortures him to death. After learning about her father’s death, Arantxa entices Trujillo into a sexual encounter, but before they can meet, the SIM chief brings evidence to Trujillo, who decides to go anyway — willing to kill her if needed. On the way there, the commando — led by General Imbert — assassinates Trujillo, bringing an end to thirty years of a brutal dictatorship. Arantxa escapes on a plane to Puerto Rico, and from there she returns to San Sebastián. November 25, 1999: At a ceremonial event in New York, Arantxa Oyamburu — accompanied by Pilar Macías and Julio Cesar — listens to a moving speech by Minerva’s daughter, Minou Mirabal, while photos and recordings of Minerva and her sisters are shown on the screen. Dedé, the surviving Mirabal sister, aware of Arantxa’s role in the events, extends an olive branch to her and they share a redeeming embrace.
