Texhnolyze

In the underground city of Lux, a young man named Ichise loses his arm and leg in a brutal fight. He is saved by a mysterious doctor named Eriko "Doc" Kaneda, who replaces his lost limbs with advanced prosthetics made from a rare material called "raffia." Ichise soon discovers that he has been given special prototypes that contain the DNA of his deceased mother, making him uniquely connected to Doc. He becomes embroiled in a power struggle between three factions vying for control of Lux: the Organo, a crime syndicate; the Salvation Union, a populist group; and the Raccan, a group of young texhnolyzed individuals. As tensions rise, Ichise meets a young seer named Ran who can see possible futures. He also encounters a mysterious traveler named Yoshi, who is secretly manipulating events to spark chaos in the city. When Yoshi tries to kill the leader of the Organo, Ichise intervenes and eliminates him with his powerful prosthetics. As the situation in Lux deteriorates, a new threat emerges in the form of "The Class," an elite group of individuals who live in a highly developed enclave outside of Lux. They are led by Kano, a monstrosity produced by incestuous reproduction, who seeks to invade the surface world and conquer Lux. Ichise and Doc travel to the surface world to stop Kano's plans, while the factions of Lux unite to fight against their common enemy. They discover that the inhabitants of the surface, the "theonormals," have lost all desire to live and are maintained alive by advanced technology. Doc commits suicide in despair, while Ichise wanders the city engaging the "theonormals" in obscure conversations. Ichise returns to Lux and encounters three "Shapes," including his former mentor Tooyama, who has been reduced to a "Shape" and is now working for Kano. Ichise beheads Tooyama to spare him a horrific fate and continues on his final journey down to Lux. In the city, all traces of resistance have been broken, and useless "Shapes" are now rooted to the ground. Ichise makes his way through the city following phantom images of Ran and encountering former colleagues who are now 'rooted' to the ground as "Shapes." He witnesses Onishi's death and decimates an angry mob, but is injured in combat. In the Opera House., Ichise finds Kano surrounded by rotting "Shapes." Kano reveals his solipsistic belief in his own exclusive sanity and his work of transmogrifying humans into fodder for his twisted desires before being killed by Ichise
