Qiao's Grand Courtyard: Season 1

In Qiao's Grand Courtyard, we meet Qiao Zhiyong (played by Chen Jianbin), a young scholar who leaves his home in Qi County, Shanxi, to sit for the imperial examination in Beijing during the reign of the Xianfeng Emperor. Upon his return home, Qiao Zhiyong is forced to take on his family's business after the death of his elder brother Qiao Zhiguang. With the help of his wife Lu Yuhan (played by Jiang Qinqin), Qiao Zhiyong transforms his family's fortunes and becomes a renowned tea merchant and financier. With success comes trouble, as Qiao Zhiyong catches the attention of the Qing imperial court and Empress Dowager Cixi, who forces him to finance the government's campaign against the Taiping rebels. The series follows Qiao Zhiyong's journey as he achieves his dream of erecting banking houses throughout China, but at a great personal cost. With its blend of drama, history, and romance, Qiao's Grand Courtyard offers a captivating glimpse into China's late Qing Dynasty.
