What is Orphan Black about?
"Witness the Suicide, Unlock the Secrets" A streetwise hustler is pulled into a compelling conspiracy after witnessing the suicide of a girl who looks just like her. Sarah Manning, a British con artist living in Toronto, assumes the identity of a woman who looks identical to her after witnessing her suicide. She soon discovers that she is a clone, and many "sister" clones spread throughout North America and Europe are part of an illegal human cloning experiment. Someone is plotting to kill them and her. Alongside her foster brother Felix Dawkins and two other clone sisters, Alison Hendrix and Cosima Niehaus, Sarah uncovers the origin of clones: a scientific movement called Neolution. They also discover that they are wanted by the police and secret religious groups like Proletheans because they believe clones are abominations. The Dyad Institute studies them scientifically but keeps them under surveillance. Sarah eventually discovers she has a daughter named Kira; all other sterile clones make efforts to avoid capture by clearly sinister Neolutionists and Proteleanists while giving their lives meaning. Orphan Black's dominant themes explore attempts to control human life creation, Dyad Group/Prolethean intrigues, Mrs. S.'s political network (Sarah's foster mother), earlier Project Leda authors (an allusion to Greek myth), defending parent-child bonds against Neolutionists/Proteleans, maturing through struggles; defending parent-child bonds against Neolutionists/Proteleans intersect with controlling human life creation too -Orphan Black
