The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant: Season 1

Mary Bryant's journey is one of incredible strength and resilience. A young Cornish woman, she is convicted of petty theft and sentenced to seven years in the Australian penal colony of Botany Bay. During her voyage, she befriends a smuggler named Will and becomes pregnant with his child. When she arrives in Botany Bay, she marries Will and they have a son, but their happiness is short-lived as they are forced to flee when Mary's former lover, Lt. Ralph Clarke, recognizes her and becomes obsessed with her. They escape to Timor but are eventually caught by Clarke, who shoots and kills Will. Mary is arrested and forced to return to England, where she loses both of her children to shipboard diseases. Despite her struggles, Mary gains the support of the English public and is eventually freed. She returns to Cornwall, where she reflects on the short time she had with her family and vows to carry on for their sake.
