In the year 1985, Jerrica Benton inherits Starlight Music, her father's record label, along with her sister Kimber and friends Aja and Shana. But when they discover a holographic computer that can create a Jem, a rock star alter ego for Jerrica, they form the Holograms and take the music world by storm. With the help of Synergy, the holographic computer, Jem and her friends battle other bands and fight to keep Starlight Music afloat. But their biggest challenge comes from Eric Raymond, Jerrica's former co-worker, who is determined to destroy the label and replace Jem with his own band, the Misfits.
