In a distant future, humanity has spread across three galaxies, governed by the Systems Commonwealth, a constitutional monarchy based on the star system Tarn-Vedra. However, when peace talks with a predatory species known as the Magog go awry, the Nietzscheans secretly attempt to take control of the Commonwealth. Caught off guard, Captain Dylan Hunt and his crew on the starship Andromeda Ascendant are forced to evacuate, leaving Hunt and his ship frozen in time near a black hole. 303 years later, a salvage ship called Eureka Maru discovers Andromeda's remains. With the Systems Commonwealth fallen and The Long Night having begun, Hunt recruits the Eureka Maru's eclectic crew to help him restore civilization and rebuild their fallen government. Joined by Beka Valentine, Seamus Zelazny Harper, Trance Gemini, Rev Bem - a former enemy turned ally - and later Telemachus Rhade and Doyle - an AI's second android avatar - they embark on their quest while defending themselves against threats from various factions vying for power in this new chaotic era where their loyalty is not always certain
