Along the way, he encounters strange new societies and attempts to solve the mystery of the persistent electromagnetic pulse that has caused the collapse of civilization. As he navigates this dangerous and unfamiliar world, Russell discovers that he himself has undergone a strange transformation, gaining enhanced night vision and endurance. With the help of his journal, he chronicles his journey and the strange new world he encounters, all while trying to stay one step ahead of those who seek to do him harm.
