I honestly think this is the best installment in the franchise since 1986. It’s not perfect, but it’s well-made, entertaining, and filled with nods to the first two chapters, which are sure to delight fans.
It’s not quite as brilliantly claustrophobic as the first film, but it’s close enough, and indicative of how much Alvarez understands about why that film remains a masterpiece.
