Words and Pictures

Words and Pictures is a romantic comedy-drama movie that features Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche as two educators who have different views on what is most important - words or pictures. Jack Marcus, played by Clive Owen, is a writer and poet who teaches advanced writing classes, but he hasn't produced any original work in years and is struggling with alcoholism. Dina Delsanto, played by Juliette Binoche, is an artist who teaches advanced art classes and has recently moved to Maine due to her severe rheumatoid arthritis. She believes that images are the only worthwhile media for expressing "truth." The two educators provoke an argument over the importance of words versus pictures, which leads to a competition between their students. As the competition unfolds, Jack and Dina develop a romantic interest in each other, but their relationship is complicated by Jack's flaws and mistakes. Ultimately, Jack confesses his plagiarism to the school board and hands in his resignation. The movie explores themes of creativity, inspiration, and the importance of finding one's own voice.
