To the Wonder

TO THE WONDER A sweeping romance that transcends borders and time, To the Wonder is a tale of love, loss, and redemption. Neil, a young American, and Marina, a Ukrainian divorcée, fall deeply in love in Paris. Their whirlwind romance takes them to Mont St. Michel, where they bask in their newfound love. Neil invites Marina to join him in Oklahoma, promising a bright future together. As they settle into their new life, their passionate romance cools, and Marina finds solace in the Catholic priest, Father Quintana, who is struggling with his own crisis of faith. Meanwhile, Tatiana, Marina's daughter, feels homesick and disconnects from Neil, who is not her biological father. When Marina's visa expires, she returns to France, leaving Neil alone. Reconnecting with his childhood friend, Jane, Neil starts a new romance. However, his unwillingness to commit leads to the disintegration of their relationship. Marina returns to Oklahoma, reconciles with Neil, and they get married. But their relationship continues to deteriorate amid feelings of isolation and disconnection. In a moment of weakness; Marina succumbs to temptation with Charlie, a carpenter. Confessing her infidelity; to Neil, he forgives her after seeking counsel from Father Quintana. Eventually offering Marina forgiveness; Neil kneels before her; and kisses her hands signaling an apparent divorce between them as Marina tells him, "I want to keep your name." The film concludes with Fr. Quintana ministering to the poor and reciting a variation of the prayer of St Patrick ("Christ With me... Christ before me..."). Several years later; Neil is seen with his family, whereas Marina walks alone in a rain-soaked pastoral setting where she experiences an ecstatic moment as a golden light passes over her face symbolizing "The Wonder."
